Newcastle sign Switzerland defender.

Newcastle have signed Switzerland defender Fabian Schar from Deportivo La Coruna on a three-year deal.

The Magpies activated a £3m release clause in the 26-year-old centre-back's contract and he becomes the club's fourth signing of the summer.

Schar has 42 caps for Switzerland and started all three group games at the 2018 World Cup.

Newcastle, who finished 10th in the Premier League last season, have also agreed a deal for Mainz striker Yoshinori Muto.

Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka joined on a permanent contract following his six-month loan spell and Swansea midfielder Ki Sung-yueng arrived on a free transfer after playing for South Korea at the World Cup.

Chelsea midfielder Kenedy returned on a season-long loan deal after the Brazilian had a successful six-month spell during the previous campaign.
